Bankia setacea, digital illustration
The Bankia are molluscs marine, looking quite different from other known, for example mussels or clams, in fact they have a long look and live worm in the wood of trees that for one reason or another are found in the sea (fallen trees , old boats, poles ...) bore a hole in his head and feed and digest cellulose by a community of bacteria living inside (symbiosis), then these tunnels inside the lining of calcareous material in long colonial galleries .
The Bankia produce these beautiful natural sculptures can be found stranded on beaches, are the remains of their colonies, I keep some in my collection of rare items Nature, recently I was amused that a new large national financial institution cogiera the Latin name of these molluscs as corporate image.
